Be Real, Be You: How Authenticity Empowers You and Transforms Your Work Life

Be Real, Be You: How Authenticity Empowers You and Transforms Your Work Life

Are you living authentically both at work and in your personal life?

If so, you’re undoubtedly experiencing your best life.

If you are not authentic, you haven’t lost everything–there’s still a chance to rediscover your true self.

There’s still time to rediscover and relive your true self.

Understanding the significance of authenticity is crucial for embracing it in both your personal life and career.

Why authenticity at work is important?

Often, we try to emulate others, forgetting that we possess unique thoughts and behaviours.

We may consciously or unconsciously mask our originality to present a more favourable image to others.

While maintaining professionalism at work is essential for a respectful workplace, there’s no need to hide your true self.

Your thoughts and beliefs are valuable to you and others, enriching the world with diverse perspectives.

Learning from others is commendable, but constantly trying to be someone else means missing out on living your own life.

When you bring your true self to work, you cultivate trust, a vital element in building stronger relationships.

Your genuine nature and what you stand for naturally attract people to you, fostering engagement.

Embrace what you’re good at:

Your strengths and potential remain concealed if you don’t embrace your true self.

While learning from others allows you to develop new strengths, acknowledging and embracing your strengths gives you a distinct advantage.

Being yourself requires minimal effort because your strengths are innate.

Showcasing your strengths involves working in alignment with your natural inclinations.

Working on your strengths is a key component of authenticity in the workplace.

Accept and embrace your flaws:

Authenticity involves not only showcasing your strengths but also accepting your flaws and vulnerabilities.

It’s perfectly acceptable to let others know where you fall short.

Allow others to judge or criticize you for who you truly are, recognizing that everyone has flaws.

Believing someone is perfect may show they’re masking their flaws or you’ve only seen their greatness.

Embracing vulnerability is the foundation of learning and keeps you humble, preventing your mind from inflating your self-importance.

Find your voice:

Your authentic self shines through in how you treat others, as your actions reflect your true identity.

Authenticity begins with your day-to-day communication, both in your family and workplace.

Are you confidently expressing your ideas, or are you suppressing them?

Creating healthy work boundaries supports self-identity and the ability to decline when necessary.

Finding your voice involves saying and doing things you love while avoiding meaningless pursuits.

Be an authentic leader:

Authenticity is crucial not only for everyone but especially for leaders.

Your leadership gains value when you present yourself as an authentic leader, garnering respect for showcasing strengths and weaknesses.

Acknowledging flaws in leadership provides an opportunity for gradual improvement.

The trust people have in you as a leader weakens when you cannot be transparent or keep your word.

Leadership without authenticity lacks genuineness.

If you cannot be transparent and vulnerable, people will respect your title rather than your authenticity.

Authenticity can diminish:

Taking part in informal workgroups can inadvertently influence your behaviour.

Evaluate whether your actions contribute to the organization’s success or detriment.

Feedback from others about your behavior can be valuable, especially within personal relationships.

Building a good relationship involves finding common ground, but solely catering to others hinders your growth as an authentic individual.

Be true to yourself:

Being authentic in the workplace requires conscious effort.

Unconscious influence from others is commonplace, making it crucial to be mindful of your words and actions.

Taking occasional moments to check in with yourself allows you to assess whether you feel authentic.

This self-reflection provides a space for reconnection if you ever feel adrift.

Be authentic and let others see your true self.
